This is a very nice K&F watchmaker's staking set in its original wooden case. This is an uncommon set that I have not been able to find much information about. Most of the punches are stamped "Swiss Made," while the front of the box is marked "Marque Déposée," which is a French trademark designation. Whether the set was manufactured in Switzerland, France, or assembled from both, I cannot say with certainty.
The set includes 70 punches and 14 stumps. It also came with 18 additional punches that do not appear to be part of the standard layout. Several look to be broaching or reaming punches, and I am including all of them with the sale.
Some punches are marked with both a number and "Swiss Made," while others are numbered only. This set did not include a centering punch, and I do not know if one was originally supplied. I have included a spare centering punch that fits the set.
This staking set has been completely serviced.
• Fully disassembled • Cleaned and lubricated • Reassembled and tested • Punches inspected for major defects • Punches cleaned, polished, ultrasonically cleaned through multiple cycles, and lightly oiled
The die plate aligns squarely with the punch tube and locks securely in place using the locking knob.
One feature I particularly like is the eccentric punch tube along with the built in punch retaining mechanism, which makes centering easy and works very well.
The frame has been lightly refinished with enamel paint. It presents much better than when I received it, although there are still a few cosmetic imperfections consistent with age.
The original wooden case is in very nice condition and is quite unique. It originally had several cracks and splits that have all been glued and stabilized. The case was lightly sanded, finished with a light stain, and protected with a hand rubbed oil finish. The hardware has been cleaned and polished.
The felt lining inside the lid was deteriorated, so it has been replaced with new felt.
I believe this is an older staking set and would make a solid addition to the bench of a hobbyist or aspiring watchmaker, or someone looking for an uncommon vintage staking set.
